Bahamas Local:
Baark! continues to bring essential veterinary services to underserved communities through its MASH Clinics (Mobile Animal Sterilization Hospitals), providing high-volume spay/neuter to the Family islands with limited veterinary access. From October 18–20th, 2025, the Baark! team traveled to San Salvador, where 136 animals received critical care during a clinic made possible through the generosity of the estate of Lady Johnstone, a passionate animal advocate whose legacy continues to improve lives.
Immediately afterward, Baark! completed two additional MASH Clinics on the island of Eleuthera, conducting 181 surgeries in Gregory Town (October 23–25th) and 173 surgeries in Governor’s Harbour (October 30th–November 1st): bringing the combined total for the three clinics to over 490 animals helped.
More than 60 animals were transported to and from Tarpum Bay, with their sterilization costs covered by the Cotton Bay Fund, expanding access for families otherwise unable to participate.
Beyond the numbers, the team witnessed a remarkable change in attitudes across Eleuthera. Baark! Clinic Coordinator Lissa McCombe shared:“What’s more heartwarming than the numbers is the shift in culture we’re seeing across Eleuthera. Communities that once felt overwhelmed by the stray problem are now proudly participating—bringing in their pets, spreading the word, and helping us care for animals with compassion. The trust, cooperation, and gratitude we feel from Eleuthera residents has been truly moving. These clinics prove that long-term commitment and collaboration can reshape an island’s relationship with its animals—and our donors make that possible.”
The clinics also drew significant attention when internationally acclaimed Bahamian musician Lenny Kravitz visited Baark!’s mobile clinic “Cleo” and publicly shared: “Thank you @baarkbahamas for protecting our potcakes.”
Eleuthera resident Petagay Hartman, who was instrumental in making these clinics possible, added “the Baark! team are so impressive and are incredibly dedicated to their mission of helping the dogs and cats of The Bahamas. The work they do here in Eleuthera has been invaluable in lowering the numbers of unwanted animals by providing free spay and neutering while also helping pet owners be more responsible through education.”
To date in 2025, Baark! has completed 3,888 spay/neuter surgeries across The Bahamas, supported by regular Wednesday–Saturday operations in Nassau with mobile clinic “Cleo”.
Alongside its surgical outreach, Baark!’s Education Program has achieved its goal of reaching 1,000 school children this year, equipping young Bahamians with the skills, empathy, and responsible pet-ownership knowledge needed to help build kinder, more compassionate and humane communities.
Baark! Chair Laura Kimble-Morley reflected on the season’s impact:“These clinics show the power of partnership, compassion, and consistent community engagement. By expanding access to spay/neuter services, strengthening humane education, and supporting better enforcement of animalprotection practices, we are reducing suffering now while building a future where responsible pet care is the norm. Together, we are continuing to create safer, healthier and more compassionate communities across the islands.”
