In the event of a storm and you want or need to leave the country urgently you will have to get formal permission from the Department of Agriculture based at Darville’s Business Complex, Gladstone & Munnings Roads, New Providence:

  • Telephone numbers: 325-7413 and 397-7450.
  • The department’s veterinarian’s are Dr Delancy, Dr Lyn & Dr Hassan.  
  • The Export Permits are good for 1 year so it might be advisable to apply in May or June so you have the Export Permit ready and available in the event of an emergency (hurricane season: June 1st – November 30th).  
  • In a situation when you have to travel in an emergency you will still require one more additional Health Certificate from your Bahamas vet to accompany the Export Permit as the Health Certificates are only valid for 24 hours prior to travel.

Export Form requirements

  • Your vet in The Bahamas’ Health Certificate – must be completed 24 hours prior to travel by vet in The Bahamas.
  • Department of Agriculture Fee $11.20.

The process involves:

  1. Obtaining a Health Certificate from your vet.
  2. Completing and submitting an application to export your dog or cat at Department of Agriculture (there is a 2-day turnaround at the department).
  3. You being issued with an Export Permit (fee $11.20).
  4. You submitting the Health Certificate and Export Permit to the Agriculture Officer and Customs Officer at the port of departure.

Your vet in The Bahamas can also provide this complete service for a fee.

Import Form requirements

  • Veterinarian Form (AGR/VS/1A Form) – must be completed 24 hours prior to travel by vet in country of origin.
  • Department of Agriculture Fee $11.20.

The process involves:

  1. Obtaining Veterinarian Form (AGR/VS/1A form) and having it completed by vet in country of origin 24 hours prior to travel.
  2. Completing and submitting an application to import your dog or cat at Department of Agriculture.
  3. You being issued with an Import Permit (fee $11.20).
  4. You submitting the Veterinarian Form and Import Permit to the Agriculture Officer and Customs Officer at the port of entry.
